Renewable Charging with MB.CHARGE Public.

Mercedes-Benz consistently relies on the use of electricity from renewable energies. Renewable Charging is an integral part of MB.CHARGE Public in Europe, the USA, Canada and China. If electricity from renewable energies is not yet available at the respective charging station, Renewable Charging uses Energy Attribute Certificates. These ensure that an equivalent amount of electricity from renewable energies is fed into the grid for charging processes via MB.CHARGE Public. They are from wind and solar power plants which are less than six years old.

FAQ

Do you still have questions how to charge your van in public?

MB.CHARGE Public is Mercedes-Benz's exclusive charging service for public charging, available only to Mercedes-Benz drivers. The digital charging functions are seamlessly integrated into the MBUX multimedia system and the Mercedes-Benz App, allowing operation through the same user interface. The MB.CHARGE Public network currently gives access to over 1.700 charging providers with around 3 million charging points worldwide. With just one charging contract, Mercedes-Benz drivers can consistently charge in a user-friendly and familiar manner at various charging station operators.

The Digital Extra MB.CHARGE Public currently has access to more than 1.700 charging providers with around 3 million charging points worldwide and is growing steadily.

Among the around 3 million charging points, there are approximately 170,000 fast-charging points with a power output of at least 150 kW.

The prerequisite for using MB.CHARGE Public is a Mercedes me ID and the VIN (chassis number) of your electrified Mercedes-Benz commercial van.

Customers pay the standard price of the charging station operator to which the charging station used belongs. The exact charging price per kilowatt hour or per minute, as well as the expected costs up to the set target charge level of the battery, can be seen on the multimedia system display or in the Mercedes-Benz App before charging. Mercedes-Benz creates maximum cost transparency for charging costs at public charging stations.

The Digital Extra MB.CHARGE Public currently gives access to over 1,700 charging providers with around 3 million charging points worldwide. With just one charging contract, Mercedes-Benz drivers can always charge at different charging station operators in the same user-friendly and familiar way.

Customers benefit from their charging contract via MB.CHARGE Public, which makes them independent of contracts with the respective charging station operator. Each charging process is automatically processed using the payment information stored with MB.CHARGE Public. Billing for charging processes in a month is usually done automatically at the end of the month.

At the charging station, authentication can be conveniently performed through the MBUX multimedia system display, the Mercedes-Benz App, the MB.CHARGE Public RFID card, or directly via Plug & Charge.

With your MB.CHARGE Public contract, you cannot charge globally, but cross-border charging is enabled within Europe and North America. Customers in Europe always pay the local price, depending on the respective charging speed. Accordingly, this price may differ from the conditions in the respective home country. A foreign customer charges in transit at the same conditions as a local user. No additional contract is required for travel from one European country to another European country. When crossing the border, the tariff-dependent country-specific roaming prices apply.

If electricity from renewable energy sources is not yet provided at the respective charging station, MB.CHARGE Public uses Energy Attribute Certificates to ensure that an equivalent amount of electricity from renewable sources is fed into the power grid.
Energy Attribute Certificates are commonly used in the electricity sector to track the renewable properties of electricity and assign them to individual consumers, regardless of the actual flow of electricity. This separation makes certificates and electricity tradable separately.

Plug & Charge is a technology that allows charging sessions to be started at public charging stations by simply plugging in the charging cable. The use of a charging card and authentication via an app or in the vehicle's are no longer necessary.

To activate MB.CHARGE Public, firstly, a charging contract with the third-party provider must be concluded. To be able to do so, the customer must have an active Mercedes-Benz company profile as well as vehicles connected to the account. The registration process with the third-party provider can be initiated through the Mercedes-Benz Website. To complete the registration, a VAT ID is required. After successful registration with the third-party provider, charging contracts can be created for each vehicle and the Digital Extra MB.CHARGE Public will be activated automatically.

Business customers that do not have a VAT ID can use the MB.CHARGE Public solution for private customers and select "Business Customer" during the registration process, if allowed by company guidelindes. To be able to do so, the registration for MB.CHARGE Public must be initiated through a private Mercedes me ID.

Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs are available in North America, Europe, Turkey, Japan, South Korea and China, with other major markets to follow.

Mercedes-Benz plans to establish more than 2,000 of its own charging hubs in North America, Europe, Turkey, Japan, South Korea, China, and other global markets by the end of the decade. Together, these hubs will feature over 10,000 charging points, with potential for further expansion based on market demand.

Depending on the region and location, Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs typically offer between six to 12 high-power charging points. The hubs feature "true high-power-charging" - which means we can provide up to 400 kW of charging power, depending on the region. Intelligent charge capacity management ensures that, as far as possible, each vehicle can be supplied with the maximum capacity it is capable of handling.

The charging hubs of the Mercedes-Benz Charging Network will be fully integrated into MB.CHARGE Public. You can easily locate a Mercedes-Benz Charging Hub using your MBUX multimedia system or the Mercedes-Benz App. Tip: Use Navigation with Electric Intelligence for long journeys. An intelligent algorithm plans a route based on available charging information, vehicle data and selected preferences. If you're not a MB.CHARGE Public customer, you can find Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs using navigation services provided by your tariff provider or your preferred navigation platform.

The charging points of the Mercedes-Benz Charging Network will be seamlessly integrated. With MB.CHARGE Public,  Mercedes-Benz offers its customers access to one of the largest public charging networks in the world. Just with one charging account Mercedes-Benz customers have access to around 3 million charging points worldwide.

Within the Mercedes-Benz Charging Network the provided electricity from renewable energy sources is contracted via green electricity supply contracts wherever possible, or carried out through the use of Energy Attribute Certificates.

The Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs are open to all drivers of electric vehicles. MB.CHARGE Public customers can reserve charging points in advance at Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs. In addition, MB.CHARGE Public customers have access to dedicated charging tariffs.

The Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs are open to all drivers of DC-capable electric vehicles of any brand. However, certain offers are only available for Mercedes-Benz customers (e.g. reservation function).

No, all Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs are open 24/7.

Depending on the region, the charging stations currently offer charging capacities of up to 400 kW, provided via the standard CCS1, CCS2, NACS, GB/T and CHAdeMO charging systems.

No, the charging stations of the Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs are equipped with the appropriate charging cable for you.

If the correct prerequisites of your van are fulfilled, the charging station communicates directly with your vehicle via the charging cable. Manual authentication via the card, app or MBUX multimedia system is not required.

To start a charging session at a Mercedes-Benz Charging Hub, you have to authenticate yourself via (Mercedes-Benz) App, RFID card or multimedia system. In case of no existing contract with a Mobility Service Provider, you can charge via ad hoc payment and authenticate via credit or debit card. If your vehicle is Plug & Charge capable, just plug in the charing cable and the charging station communicates directly with your vehicle via the charging cable. Manual authentication via the card, app or MBUX multimedia system is not required.

If you want to stop the charging session, select the “Stop” function in your charging service app or on the charging station´s screen. If you want to unlock the screen, you will need to present your RFID card.

You can monitor the progress of your charging session on the HMI display, which shows the state of charge (SoC) percentage and the estimated remaining time needed to reach a full 100% charge. Additionally, customers can view the charging SoC and progress through the LED charging bar located on the light pole or canopy pillar. MB.CHARGE Public customers can track the charging progress using the charging monitor within the Mercedes-Benz App and on their vehicle's display.

The charging power always depends on several factors, such as the maximum charging power of the vehicle, the battery temperature of the van or which van shares a charging station. If you want to charge as fast as possible, make sure that you have been navigated to the charging station via the navigation system, so that the vehicle can start to adjust the battery temperature before arriving at the charging station (applies to Mercedes-Benz vehicles).

If you initiated the charging process using an app from your chosen e-Mobility Service Provider, your employer can pay using the payment methods stored in the app account. Alternatively, you can use your RFID card. If you do not have a contract with any e-Mobility Service Provider, your employer can make an ad hoc payment. Accepted methods include Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, VPay, and Girocard.

You can view the price offered in the Mercedes-Benz App, in the app of your preferred service provider, or on the charger screen. For ad hoc pricing, your employer pays based on the amount of energy your electric commercial van receives, regardless of variations in charging speed. The price is calculated per kWh.
