Britain's roads in crisis this Easter?

Broken motorways, urban parking wars, spiralling congestion... and now here comes Easter half term.

As the nation heads for the first big getaway of 2018, experts predict more than 20 million drivers will hit the roads. But Britain's highways are at crisis point and the Easetr rush could end up being a 'perfect storm' for road users everywhere.

New figures released this month from the Department for Transport, show that 10% of the road network maintained by local authorities in Great Britain is now in a poor condition or requires further inspection - equivalent to nearly 23,000 miles.

But that's not the only headache for motorists. Urban parking battles have also become a daily reality for businesses delivering vital goods and services to our towns and cities. Almost 9 out of 10 delivery drivers say that flouting parking laws and regulations in our crowded towns and cities is something they simply have to do in order to complete their job.

Meanwhile, according to the data from the Mercedes-Benz Vans Business Barometer, 55% of delivery drivers say that parking provision in towns and cities has got worse in the past year alone.

With traffic volumes set to soar today - from leisure travellers getting away through to businesses and retailers delivering vital goods - Easter 2018 will prove a huge test for Britain's ailing road network.

The Mercedes-Benz Vans Business Barometer is a nationwide quarterly survey of businesses large and small, created to help us understand the economic landscape and discover what van owners and drivers need to keep their business moving.
