What is an electric car and how does it work?

What is an electric car and how does it work?

Electric cars operate using an electric motor instead of an internal combustion engine. You may have heard of the term BEV, which stands for a Battery Electric Vehicle, or EV which stands for Electric Vehicle. Differently to petrol or diesel cars, electric cars need to be plugged in to a source of electricity in order to run, which you can do at home, at work or at a public charging station. Another key difference to combustion cars is that electric motors produce virtually no sound at all, creating a relaxing aura inside the car. Even though the engine is more quiet, this doesn’t mean reduced performance - electric cars produce maximum torque right from a standing start, so you can enjoy instant acceleration and a totally new driving dynamic.

Whether it’s to generate maximum range, maximum performance or a balance between the two, you can achieve totally different driving dynamics in your EQ by using the different Dynamic Select driving modes and EQ Recuperation modes. For example, MAX RANGE / E+ limits throttle response based on speed limits, map data and radar sensors to limit excess power consumption, whereas SPORT sets the powertrain up to provide the best response for maximum performance.

        • Why is the real electric range often less than specified?

Why is the real electric range often less than specified?

The electric range varies depending on individual driving behaviour, route profile and environmental factors. ECO Assist allows you to travel further on electric power by taking advantage of the recuperation and/or sailing function. Auxiliary functions such as seat heating or climate control also has an impact on the range.

        • Is there a warranty on the car battery?

Is there a warranty on the car battery?

The battery certificate protects customers for up to 8 years or a mileage of 100,000 miles against any financial burden should the high-voltage battery fall below the threshold of 180 Ah of reserve capacity.

        • How can I drive my Mercedes-Benz electric car as efficiently as possible?

How can I drive my Mercedes-Benz electric car as efficiently as possible?

4 different drive programs and 5 recuperation levels assist you in maintaining an efficient driving style. Both functions enable you to optimise your electrical consumption and thus the range of your electric Mercedes-Benz. We would also recommend using the Route Optimized Navigation and Pre-Entry Climate Control features to further improve range.
