Car Scrapping & End-of-life Car Recycling.

To make car recycling and car scrapping as easy as possible and comply with manufactures obligation under the End of Life Vehicle directive, Mercedes-Benz has partnered with Autogreen Ltd in the UK to provide an approved network of certified Authorised Treatment car scrapping, recycling and dismantling facilities (ATF’s) for end-of-life vehicles. They will take care of the environmentally friendly scrapping and recycling of your vehicle once it has reached the end of its life, ensuring that it is recycled to 95%.*

How to scrap a car.
To learn where you can scrap or recycle your Mercedes-Benz car, visit www.rewardingrecycling.co.uk  or call 0800 542 2002. You can drop it off to any local participating dealer, Network approved ATF, or opt for home collection.

If you want to scrap or recycle your Mercedes-Benz car but want to keep the registration plate of your vehicle, you can apply to keep it. When you take your car to the ATF, make sure you give them your vehicle log book or V5C and keep the yellow V5C/3 slip, you will also be required to provide photographic documents to prove your identity. Once your car has reached an ATF to be recycled, make sure you tell the DVLA otherwise you can be fined £1,000. You can notify the DVLA that you have surrendered your vehicle using the document reference number on the V5c through their online service at https://www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle.

To learn where you can scrap or recycle your Mercedes-Benz car, visit or call 0800 542 2002. Once you have found the nearest Mercedes-Benz appointed car recycling centre, you can drop it off to any local participating dealer, or opt for free home collection.

Car Scrapping & End-of-life Car Recycling

How much is my scrap car worth?
The value of your vehicle is calculated based on daily updated metal and used car market prices, its weight, and your geographical location.

To receive a quote, visit www.rewardingrecycling.co.uk or call 0800 542 2002. Your quotation is valid for 14 days, following the collection or drop off of your vehicle to the nominated facility you can be paid in two different ways, either by Faster Payment or by BACS bank transfer. When you surrender your vehicle you will be given a unique PIN number to transfer the money directly into your account. Shortly after surrender you will receive an electronic copy of the Certificate of Destruction, unless this is provided at the point of drop off.

DVLA Certificate of Destruction.
After handing over your end-of-life vehicle and the registration documents you will be given a DVLA Certificate of Destruction (COD), this document confirms you are no longer liable for the vehicle and it has been disposed of properly.

The DVLA Certificate of Destruction (CoD) is a document issued by a registered Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF), through an electronic link directly to the DVLA.

To find out more about the process and CoD’s visit: www.gov.uk/scrapped-and-written-off-vehicles and www.gov.uk/guidance/end-of-life-vehicles-elvs-guidance-for-waste-sites

Waste Batteries.

Waste Batteries

Waste Batteries.

In the UK, all battery producers are legally required to be registered with the Government as part of an EU-wide initiative to increase battery collection and recycling. The aim of the scheme is to completely prohibit the landfill and incineration of car batteries, industrial and portable batteries.

  • Car Batteries

    Automotive Batteries

If you want to replace the battery in your Mercedes-Benz or wish to buy a new battery, you can do so by taking it to your nearest Mercedes-Benz Retailer who will be able to advise which battery is needed. The approved retailer will also be able to install a new one or fit your vehicle with a GenuineParts battery and the old used car battery will be taken care of and disposed of. However, you can always take your old car battery to one of the following facilities for recycling:

    • Civic Amenity and Recycling Centres
    • Local Authority Battery Collection Schemes
    • Licensed End of Life Vehicle Authorised Treatment Facilities
    • Licensed Metal Recycling Sites

  • Portable batteries

    Portable Batteries

Portable batteries are those batteries such as sealed batteries that can easily be carried around and are often found in items such as car remotes, alarm controls, torches, mobile phones, MP3 players and calculators. These portable batteries can be recycled by taking them to your nearest Mercedes-Benz Retailer, where they will be collected. Other collection points are available at places such as large supermarkets and shops, DIY stores as well as civic amenity sites.

To find your nearest recycling facilities for car batteries and portable batteries visit www.recycle-more.co.uk

  • Electric & Hybrid car batteries (Industrial batteries)

    Industrial Batteries

As of the 1st January 2010, any businesses that place hybrid batteries or electric vehicle batteries into the UK market have an obligation to arrange for the treatment and recycling of these batteries. If you would like to recycle an electric vehicle battery or a hybrid battery, please contact your nearest Mercedes-Benz Retailer who will be able to assist you with recycling them.

* Autogreen's network of ATF's and take-back points will take all registered Mercedes-Benz vehicles. These sites will not charge for the disposal of these vehicles if the vehicle is complete, i.e. the vehicle must include its essential component parts, including but not limited to its engine, coachworks/chassis, transmission drive, catalytic converter, wheels, and must not contain waste. As part of Autogreen’s Rewarding Recycling Programme they may even be able to provide you with a value for your vehicle’s recycled parts and metals.

When you have your hands full of shopping or your key fob is buried in your bag, Keyless-Go is a very handy feature. It’s important to remember, too, that for all of our current models and those produced since 2014, our Keyless-Go keys can be simply deactivated by pressing the lock button twice. A light will flash to show that the key has been de-activated, and it can be re-activated by pressing any button.

By deactivating the key, it can no longer be compromised – great for when your car is parked outside your house or close to where your fob is stored. If you keep a spare key at home, this should also be deactivated when it’s not being used to ensure ultimate security.
