Edinburgh cabbie Nick Adam has become the first customer in Britain for the all-new, cleaner, ‘greener’ Mercedes-Benz Vito Taxi.
A worthy successor to the vehicle that took the industry by storm, the new taxi features advanced, low-emission Euro 6 engine technology and is impressively fuel-efficient. It also offers unrivalled levels of space and refined comfort for the driver and up to six passengers, as well as being fully wheelchair accessible.
Mr Adam collected his third successive Vito Taxi from the Welham Green, Hertfordshire headquarters of Dealer S & B Commercials, the sole UK retail outlet for the ground-breaking model.
A real head-turner with its stylish lines and metallic paint, the Compact-bodied 114 CDI has an optional seven-speed 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox which transmits the engine’s 114 hp output through the rear wheels. The National Vito Taxi is also available in front wheel-drive form, as the 109 CDI with 88 hp powerplant.
Standard equipment includes fuel-saving BlueEFFICIENCY measures, air conditioning for driver and passengers, electric folding mirrors, electrically-operated sliding doors on both sides and an electric near-side step.
Mr Adam took advantage of competitive funding from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services to acquire his new vehicle. “I came out of a traditional black cab when I bought my first, Euro 4 Vito Taxi back in 2010,” he recalled. “I ran it for four-and-a-half years, during which I covered some 360,000 trouble-free miles, before switching to a Euro 5 model.
“That was excellent too, but with this latest taxi Mercedes-Benz has raised the bar by another notch. On the evidence of what I’ve seen so far, I reckon I’m going to save between £5 and £10 per shift in fuel costs.
“My new vehicle is built to an exceptionally high standard and fully supported by Mercedes-Benz, while S & B’s Sales Consultant Stuart Atkinson really understands the taxi trade and provides a first class service.”
