Mercedes-Benz stole the show at the UK transport industry’s ‘Oscars’ ceremony by scooping three of the event’s top awards.
Judges at the annual Motor Transport Awards 2007 awarded their three premier prizes – for the best truck, best van and best commercial vehicle dealership in the country – to the Mercedes Axor, Mercedes Sprinter, and Northside Truck and Van.
Addressing a crowd of more than 1,400 people, including some of the industry’s most influential figures, a jubilant Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles Managing Director Ian Jones declared: “This is a fantastic achievement. To win all three of these highly coveted awards is a true indication that both our products and our dealer network are exactly what the market requires.
“Axor, a truck designed for Britain, fought off strong competition from both DAF and MAN. Our new Sprinter, meanwhile, proved once again that it’s the best van range on the market today.”
He continued: “The award for Northside Truck and Van marks the unstinting efforts made by the company, our representative in West and South Yorkshire, but also reflects the hard work and huge investment put in across our entire national dealer network, to bring the highest possible levels of service to all of our customers.”
The prizes were presented at a glittering gala evening held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Wednesday 4th July.
Awarding the title of Fleet Truck of the Year to the Mercedes Axor, judges paid tribute to its superb fuel economy, describing it simply as: “The best in its class on fuel.”
