The procurement of the seven new, environmentally friendly Mercedes-Benz Citaro hybrid is an immediate measure as part of which RNV is pursuing implementation of its master plan for sustainable mobility in the Rhein and Neckar metropolitan area in the south west of Germany. This metropolitan area roughly encompasses a region across the three federal German states of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse surrounding the cities of Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Heidelberg. The region with a population of 2.4 million is considered Germany's seventh largest economic area. Consequently, the bundled, local public transport network of the three cities is crucial and this is what RNV provides. It is the company's clearly defined objective to drive forward sustainable local public transport.
Five Mercedes-Benz Citaro hybrid buses will be in service throughout Ludwigshafen in Rhineland-Palatinate and two will carry passengers on the opposite side of the river Rhine in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg.
