Active Brake Assist 3 (ABA 3) emergency braking assistant, Stop/Start Assist for stop-and-go traffic, Attention Assist (AtAs) – three examples of many for the highly developed safety technology of the new Tourismo RHD. Its comprehensive safety equipment can be individually aligned to the desired use. The series safety technology of the new high-deck touring coach is already exemplary, with maximum equipment it is unsurpassed. The next step has already been announced: from spring 2018 Mercedes-Benz will also offer the high-decker with the new Active Brake Assist 4, the only emergency braking assistant for buses, which not only automatically brakes for vehicles in front and stationary obstacles, but also for pedestrians.
The passive safety also sets new standards in this segment: should an accident occur despite all the safety rules, the unique Front Collision Guard (FCG) protects the driver and passengers in the event of a collision. Its crash elements specifically break down energy, the driver's area assigned to a massive frame section including steering, pedals and seat move backwards and thereby increase the living area of the driver. The completely new frame of the bus, made using annular frame member construction, offers passengers and drivers a maximum survival space if it rolls over sideways.
