Stuttgart / Bliestal – On 21 April 2017 Bliestalverkehr GbR, represented by Messrs Walfried Munz and Bernd Moreau as well as Ms Simone Müller-Bräm, received twelve new Mercedes-Benz Citaro Üs for the new Saarpfalz District South route bundle. Ali Tetikel, Mercedes-Benz Bus and Coach unit sales representative, handed over the symbolic key for the new vehicle fleet.
It is a declared goal of the Saarland biosphere region of Bliesgau to promote climate protection through the avoidance and transfer of traffic to eco-friendly forms of transport such as public local transport. With this in mind, the authorities in the public local transport, lead by the Saarpfalz District and the transport management company Saarland VGS, made use of the opportunity in the allocation of the new route bundle and expanded on the offer as well as adjusted to the increased passenger demands. Alongside timetable improvements, barrier-free and comfortable equipment of the newly acquired Citaros was valued. All Citaro Üs have double width entry doors as well as a wheelchair ramp. Furthermore, they have a passenger information system made up of a bus stop announcement and TFT internal display as well as an enlarged multifunctional floor for wheelchairs, prams or bikes. For the first time, a passenger counting system is used in the vehicles and should in future give precise information about the structure of the individual routes as well as determining and checking the transport performance.
