The results of the testing represent particularly well-honed and economic solutions for transport operators and private companies. Parallel to this series production of the Mercedes-Benz Citaro and Travego as the first urban bus and touring coach with completely newly developed Euro VI engines began. A total of some 60 prototypes were deployed for testing purposes for the change to Euro VI, and of these 26 buses were deployed in endurance testing.
Between them they covered more than five million kilometres. 42 test engineers, 33 mechanics and a large number of drivers were involved, particularly for the endurance testing.
The winter tests played an important part in this connection. In Lapland the new engine compartment layouts, with their precisely calculated air throughflow, were truly put to the test by the sub-zero temperatures. And in genuine urban bus operation, the exhaust gas emission control was also well tested for its ability to cope with the critical combination of a light load and extremely low temperatures.
