Hybrid vehicles combine all the advantages of the internal combustion engine with the benefits of electric power to achieve superior performance and exceptional efficiency.
With plenty of experience in creating Hybrid vehicles, we have already made strong statements with our models including the C 300 BlueTEC Hybrid, E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid, S 300 BlueTEC Hybrid and the S 400 Hybrid.
Mercedes-Benz has taken our hybrid drive system technology one step further and created the S 500 Plug-in Hybrid. With a powerful V6 engine, supplemented by the hybrid module together generating 442hp, it creates a powerful V8-like driving pleasure. Additionally performance is not hampered as it can accelerate from rest to 62 mph in just 5.2 seconds before reaching a limited 155 mph, and yet is exempt from road tax and receives a 100 per cent discount on the London Congestion Charge.
Including anticipatory energy management, the S 500 Plug-in Hybrid intelligently combines technology to allow customers to achieve the maximum possible efficiency on all journeys with minimum driver effort required by using the navigation system together with radars and cameras to predict terrain, driver behaviour and traffic ahead. These are the sorts of technological advancements which allow the
S 500 Plug-in Hybrid to reach a combined fuel consumption of up to 100.9 mpg, which most 4-cylinder engines struggle to achieve.
Other key features of the S 500 Plug-in Hybrid include Regenerative Braking which recharges the high-voltage battery when you ease off the accelerator pedal or brake, and a choice of 4 Hybrid Operating Modes including E-Mode (purely electric driving) and Charge (to help increase the State of Charge whilst driving). Consequently the
S 500 Plug-in Hybrid boasts CO2 emissions as low as 65 g/km combined (or 0 g/km purely electric driving for over 20 mile range).
These are just some of the technological advancements Mercedes-Benz has made to emphasise ‘Efficiency at its best.’
