All Citaros operate in line service on the demanding route 17 in Wiesbaden. It traverses the city centre of Hesse’s capital and includes the pedestrian zone as well as outlying areas. However, on the test vehicles ballast replaces the passengers.
To ensure realistic operating conditions, the test buses each follow an urban bus from the Wiesbaden Transport Authority in regular service. To keep the vehicles from influencing each other, the test buses stop several minutes apart. The buses will complete about 20 round trips per day on route 17, which is 18.6 km long and has an elevation change of 400 m. The buses will stop at each bus stop where the buses are lowered using the kneeling function and the passenger doors are opened.
